Itchy Itchy!!! Why does Spotted deer itch his Antler?
Spotted deers shed their antler annually and during the growth the antlers develop a velvet coat to enhance growth. After the antler has grown fully the velvet coat would dry off and fall behind. So it may seem that the dried portion is itchy to the deer and that’s why they are itching it… but it is not!
The real reason behind this behavior of spotted deer rubbing the antlers on the trees is not itching… Spotted deer does this to improve his shoulder strength and also to leave his scent on the trees.
