I normally get a lot of clarifications related to Wildlife Photography. 6 out of the 10 questions I get related to Wildlife Photography is this – Which is the Best Camera? Which is the best lens?. I would try and answer that in this article.

That’s my quote to the budding photographers. The actual meaning behind that quote is – DSLR world is ever expanding and new photography equipment including camera, lens etc., would keep getting launched and if you decide to find the best, that is a never ending exercise. But, I would say:
The best Camera for you is the Camera which suits you!
So all you have to do is, try and find the camera and lens that suits you the best. The tips below will help you do that.

What’s your Type of Photography? What do you love to Photograph?
First decide what you wish to photograph – wildlife, people, birds, insects, landscapes, food etc. Once you are clear, you know what type of photography you are into. I’m a wildlife photographer because I love to photograph wildlife. So my prime focus is only wildlife photography; my camera & lens selection will focus only on that.

You have to list down all the key functionalities needed on your photography kit. Following examples would help you on this:
- A Bird Photographer definitely needs a 500mm or greater reach lens since birds won’t allow you to get closer.
- An Action Photographer definitely needs at-least 7-9 Frames per second capable camera else he will miss some crucial moments.
- A Landscape Photographer needs a wide angle lens to capture the beautiful landscapes in a single frame.
- A Portrait Photographer needs a lens which is low depth of field capable to get a creamy bokeh; Aperture of 4 or less.
- An Event Photographer needs a camera and lens which works well on a low light situation.

How much Budget do you have for your Photography Kit?
Decide how much you are willing to spend on your photography kit. Photography is a very expensive hobby and there is no limit to how much you can spend.
Don’t burn your fingers by seeing some Established Pro Photographers posing with an Array of Prime Lens! They should be doing Photography for years and would be earning money out of it.
